Baby Boomers Reinvent Senior Housing in Twin Cities…

Baby boomers in many ways have redefined aging as we know it, and when it comes to housing in Minneapolis, reports show the boomers are blazing their own trail.

example-dadThe generation before the baby boomers looked to retire young and move on from their single-family homes to 50+ communities and multi-generational households. We are seeing that baby boomers are instead continuing to work, even if it is part-time. Trends show boomers are in no rush to leave the single-family living lifestyle.

The choices of how baby boomers retire will continue to affect our communities. This article by Minneapolis Realtor Jenna Thuening discusses why baby boomers are desiring to stay in their own home instead of choosing a new style of living.

Baby boomers choose to remain in their homes for five primary reasons: the joys of having children and grandchildren visit, the ease of living in the home with which they are most familiar, the ability to maintain the community of established relationships, the fact entire neighborhoods benefit from engaged senior homeowners and to avoid the increasing costs of assisted living.

How can we support the baby boomer generation’s needs and help them remain independent?

Along with boomers choosing to stay in their homes comes the need for more support.
