In a feature on CBS Minnesota (WCCO), reporter Susan Elizabeth Littlefield introduced viewers to the Cedar Creek Cheetahs—a cheerleading team with an age gap of roughly 80 years between its youngest and oldest members.
Cheer is the newest addition to Lifespark’s SPARK Performance League, a first-of-its-kind senior sports league where communities form teams and compete in events like Robot Soccer, Grip Games, TRYathalon, and cheerleading. The SPARK Performance League sits under SPARK Growth & Wellness, a key pillar of Lifespark’s COMPLETE Senior Living Approach.
Cedar Creek was one of 15 teams that competed in Cheer Nationals this summer and is one of eight teams advancing to the finals this fall.
Wendy Zimmerman, Director, Community Life at Cedar Creek and Cheetah’s Cheer Coach, explained, “I think it’s just the idea that there is nothing that can limit our seniors.” That’s the biggest takeaway: that you’re more capable than you may believe, and nothing is off-limits, no matter your age.
