Halloween Special for Lifesprk grandPad

Social media not for the seniors in your life? Consider this – connecting with others on social media sites can actually serve a basic human need. According to Mathew Lieberman, a neuroscientist from UCLA, a growing body of research shows that the need to connect socially with others is as basic as our need for food, water and shelter.

In fact, Twitter earlier this year showed a 79% increase in the 55-64 age bracket. Lisa Lewis Tyre writes in her Huffington Post blog 3 reasons why Twitter may be an older person’s best friend – no longer just for the 20-somethings but for those born in the 1920-somethings and older.

Senior_Technology_Grandpad_October_Special_LifesprkBut for many seniors it’s not necessarily the need for social connections that are keeping them from using these social resources but the technology itself. Many iPhones, tablets, and laptops are challenging for seniors to use – cords are a safety hazard, plans are expensive, small screens are difficult to read and buttons aren’t easy to push.  And with scams so easily haunting the elder population, how can you be sure something is safe and secure?

To help seniors overcome the fear of technology, Lifesprk is offering the grandPad as an option for clients and families to easily connect to their purpose and passion – with one simple button.  “I got one for my mother-in-law who kept saying she didn’t want an iPad or a tablet. But she was missing out on all the emails and photos the family was sharing. Now I can’t get the grandPad out of her hands – and my father-in-law would rather use the grandPad than his laptop!” That’s the experience Lifesprk’s Vice President of Marketing, Karen Carney, has had with her aging loved ones – finally a piece of technology that’s user friendly and no longer scary for seniors.

Before helping your older loved one to tweet, post and pin, you may want start with getting them the right technology to build their confidence and spark their enthusiasm for the social world and beyond. This month grandPad is offering a Halloween Promo – subscribe for two months and receive the third month free.
