Description
The Hospice Volunteer provides patient companionship and support services according to his/her experience and training and in compliance with organization policies.
Position Functions and Responsibilities
- Serves as an integral member of the interdisciplinary group amid various settings: patient homes; assisted living, memory care or skilled nursing facilities; inpatient hospitals; hospice-homes.

- May include administrative or office duties.

- Provide emotional support or practical assistance to enhance the comfort and quality of life for patients and families/caregivers, which may include: reading; card games; letter-writing; listening to music; light housekeeping; meal preparation or errands, as requested.

- May provide respite to allow families/caregivers to take time away from hospice patient.

- Maintains open communication and completes documentation of visits, per policy.

- May attend interdisciplinary group meetings, as appropriate.
Qualifications
- Experienced individual, supportive of the hospice concept, comfortable with his/her own mortality and spirituality and willing to serve others in a volunteer capacity.

- Successful completion of the hospice’s volunteer training and orientation program; annual training.
—
- Previous volunteer experience preferred.
—
- Ability to work within the interdisciplinary group and uphold Lifesprk policies and procedures.

- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and appropriate boundaries, in accordance with policies.
—
- Must pass a MVR check based on Lifespark company policy

- Must be at least 17 years old
